Have you frequented any good chat rooms lately? I hate going on internet chat lines. Half the room is there hunting for people to have cyber sex with and the other half of people are begging for someone to chat with them while everyone is ignoring each other desperately trying to make themselves look enticing to anyone else in the chatroom. The internet is such an interesting place because you can theoretically interact with millions of people all over the world at the stroke of a key pad and make friends with those whom you normally would not get a chane to interact with. Personally I have been hooked up to the net since I was in grade 8 (I'm almost in second year university right now in case you didn't already know) and I do not have any internet friends. I've had this e-zine up for about three and a half years now and haven't made any great friends...well no friends. Maybe this page sucks and maybe I'm just an anti-social person who's not really out looking for friends but still after seven years you would think I would have made a couple internet friends. You don't have to be afraid of me or intimidated by my greatness because I'm not really as cool as I come of as (I'm such a loser, honestly). I'm not the social butterfly I was in the past and I don't think I'm even as interesting as I was in the past because I'm now over the whole teen angst thing which is why it's so hard to write for S.P.O.R.E.S. now because I don't have any of that woe is me crap left in my system.
You would think with the millions of people surfing the net each day there would be an increased chance of meeting someone whom you could connect with more easily than just looking for that in your backyard but there isn't. There are people looking at porn and looking for pages on how to make pipe bombs or reading stalker homepages and not telling the police about it. There's that hopeful teenage girl out there hoping to by chance run into her favorite teen hearthrob in a chat room or on a message board. That used to be me you know...when I was in grade 8 I would believe anything anyone told me in a chat room like the innocent blooming flower that was adolescent Michelle. People would tell me they were a celebrity and I would believe them and be all star struck and desperately trying to seem cool so they would want to be my friend little did I know how easy and inviting it is to lie when you are on the internet because people aren't standing face to face and there are people out there pretending to be things they are not from every reason from trying to live viariously through a manufactured persona to trying to child molesters preying on little girls. The internet is a strange place that I almost fear because now anyone has even greater access to find out everything and anything about you. So much information is floating around in cyberspace...kind of freaky to think about isn't it...or maybe it's just freaky for me to think about. So what do you think the potential for the futue is? Every so often do you type your name into the search engine to see who might have a page up about you, and how they plan to murder you? I do because I am paranoid and the only thing that ever comes up is stupid S.P.O.R.E.S. which I write myself and I am no stalker. If you're alone out there and you've happened along this magical piece of mystery I call S.P.O.R.E.S. just know that you're not alone in this world. You're never alone. Teen heartthrob if you're reading this, just drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org and I promise to write back.
